Completed in October 2002, the redevelopment concept took its design lead from the existing elegant 1950s buildings. These have been renovated and extended to house a variety of new aquatic leisure activities that will provide all year round modern facilities.
All new and existing spaces are now linked by an internal street, which runs east-west between the existing indoor 25m pool on the east, to the outdoor Olympic and dive pools on the west.
The existing building contains the upgraded entry, reception and change rooms adjacent to the street frontage. The new additions house the new leisure pool hall, which features a split-level fun pool containing waterfalls, hydro-therapy alcoves, a lazy river and water cannon, two hydro-slides, a separate learners pool, a large spa pool, sauna and steam rooms and associated service spaces. A toddlers pool and café, separated by a see-through aquarium, complete the indoor facilities, while a new outdoor leisure pool and terraces complete the redevelopment.
